A customer emailed last month to ask whether her bracelet was defective. Two of the beads in her strand carried a rust-coloured vein the product photograph did not show. They were the same stone, same size, same batch. They were also, unavoidably, different beads.

Stone is a record of where it formed
Banded agate shows its growth layers. Jasper carries sediment. Rutilated quartz holds needles of a second mineral suspended inside the first, and those needles point in whatever direction they grew. Super seven can put violet, pink and grey in the same bead, which is why one bracelet looks different from every angle you turn it.
None of this is reproducible on demand. A gemstone supplier can promise you a colour family, a size and a grade. Nobody can promise you that bead number seven will look like bead number seven in the photograph.

Age, not pigment
Beeswax is amber before time and pressure have darkened it — the same resin at a different age. Our white beeswax beads read milky and slightly translucent, warming against skin and shifting in every light; the old beeswax is deep honeyed yellow, with irregular barrel shapes because that is what the finished material looks like. Neither is a treatment, a dye or a coating.
Two rules follow from that. First, when we describe a bracelet's colour we describe the batch, not the individual piece. Second, if a specific stone's appearance matters to you — a particular shade, a big contrast, no dark inclusions — say so before ordering. We can photograph the actual selection and send it before we string.
What is a defect, and what is not
A defect is a chip, a crack, a strand arriving broken, or a piece that does not match what you approved. A vein, a grain line, a shade difference between two beads of the same stone: not a defect. If a bracelet arrives damaged or wrong, email us within 14 days with your order number and photographs and we repair, replace or refund at no cost, return shipping included.
Care follows the same logic. Stone is hard; some stone is brittle. Agate tolerates daily wear but dislikes the gym. Lapis is softer than agate and dislikes water. Keep everything away from perfume and chlorine, wipe with a dry cloth, and store flat rather than hanging so the cord does not stretch.
